Kids Not Infecting Teachers with SARS-CoV-2 Infection Says Latest Duke Study

Kids Not Transmitting COVID

According to an article published in The Journal of Pediatrics, Incidence and Secondary Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 Infections in Schools, it was found that:

"In the first 9 weeks of in-person instruction in NC [North Carolina] schools, we found extremely limited within-school secondary transmission of SARS-CoV-2, as determined by contact tracing."

There were also zero cases of transmission of SARS-CoV-2 Infections from child to teacher.

Here is a quick breakdown of the study:⁣

✓ 11 school districts ⁣included
✓ 90,000 North Carolina students ⁣studies (large study base!!)
✓ Study length: The first 9 weeks of 100% in-person school⁣ (08/15/2020–10/23/2020)
✓ Incidence of transmission from kids to teachers: ZERO⁣
✓ Incidence of transmission from teacher to kids: 32⁣
✓ The study was published on January 11, 2021

Understandably, teachers are concerned about going back to in-person school.

However, the data from this large study is showing with proper preventative measures children are not transmitting the SARS-CoV-2 infections as initially expected.

In other words, schools are not a nexus of infection.

In my opinion, remote learning mandates are doing more harm than good by keeping children in remote learning environments, isolated, and on electronic devices for hours each day.

Doctors at the Medical University of South Carolina are calling the alarming rate of mental health issues in children and teens "twin pandemics" because they're seeing more cases of pediatric mental crisis and attempted suicide than SARS-CoV-2 cases.

Here are some of the major issues caused by remote learning:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Lack of motivation
  • Fatigue
  • Poor learning and retention
  • Social isolation & loneliness
  • Suicide
  • Overeating, weight gain
  • Food insecurity without school food programs
  • Postural decline and exacerbated kyphosis

I am not shaming or blaming anyone. I know that we're all trying to figure out the right things to do in a rapidly evolving situation. But, for all the talk of following the science, it is often ignored if it doesn't fit a particular agenda.

I am simply stating that the numbers don’t add up. It's time to put the welfare of children above all else!!

Share this study with parents and school boards.

On a personal level, I think the most important action parents can take is to encourage school boards to create more learning options, including full-time in-person learning for teachers, students, and parents that are ready and feel comfortable with the risks.

Allow immuno-compromised children and those with pre-existing or chronic health issues to continue learning in the virtual school environment as well.

In this way, we could help the most number of children and maybe start to reduce the negative impact of the "twin pandemics".

How Can Acupuncturists Help Children Safely Return to In-Person School?

1. Make sure children are taking Vitamin D daily.

If you only had kids do one this - this is it! Healthy levels of vitamin D prevent the worst symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 Infections. You can learn about foods and other supplements to support immunity from holistic mama doc Dr. Elisa Song here. Watch the replay of her full pandemic master class here.

2. Earseeds

Several research studies show that using the auriculotherapy points for stress can help lower cortisol levels. This would help children with stress and anxiety related to staying at home and/or returning to full-time in-person learning.

You can purchase earseeds here. They have a "Survive School Earseeds Bundle," which includes the Deluxe Kid's Earseed Kit. It is the best deal and it covers stress and anxiety.

3. AcuPatching™

Research also shows that applying the LifeWave Aeon patch on the body has a balancing effect on the autonomic nervous system. This can be combined with the LifeWave Glutathione patch, increasing the body's own production of glutathione up to 300%!

Learn more about AcuPatching™ for stress here. Get started with AcuPatching™ here

Pro Tip: If children do not want the patches to show, they can put them on Kidney 1 on the bottom of the foot. Parents can even tuck the patch into a pocket, and it will still have a beneficial effect.

3. Acupuncture

Remind parents to bring their child in for a visit if their child is having emotional issues, stress, fatigue, or is rundown. It's better to get the body back into balance before adding the stress of regular full-time school.

Let's spread the word and help get kids back into the classroom!
